Take steps to improve KIMS, says Puttappa

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: President of the Karnataka Development Forum Patil Puttappa has urged the State Government to take steps to improve the functioning of the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital in Hubli.

In a press release issued here on Sunday, the veteran journalist took exception to the “apathy” of government officials and the elected representatives towards improving the hospital, which was in the golden jubilee year of its establishment.

Funds

Dr. Puttappa said that though much had been said about providing funds and improving the hospital, no considerable improvement could be seen. He said that KIMS, which was once the only hospital in the region to provide better healthcare to poor people, ceased to be so with the Government turning a blind eye towards its improvement. Though advance medical equipment had been provided, there was no qualified staff to operate and maintain them.

Request

Referring to the Government’s request to the people to write to the Health Minister if government hospitals in their areas were in poor condition, he sought to know if the same applied to medical institutions such as KIMS.

Dr. Puttappa urged the Government to take steps to improve the functioning of the KIMS hospital.
