House burgled

ARUPPUKOTTAI: An armed gang snatched five-and-a-half sovereigns of gold from a family after attacking two of them with a sickle at Rajiv Nagar near here on Monday morning.

The police said that Tamilarasi (45) had opened the door of her house at 3.50 a.m. to draw rangoli when four unidentified persons, all in the age group of 25 to 30 years, entered the house.

They attacked Tamilarai and her husband Alagarsamy (48). However, the armed gang left the couple’s two daughters unharmed after they pleaded with them. After snatching the valuables from the mother and her daughter Rohini, they fled from the scene. The Aruppukottai Taluk police are investigating.
