Operate DEMU trains

A large number of people travel by train from Tiruchi to Thanjavur everyday. A majority of the trains proceeding to Tiruchi originate either from Mayiladuturai or Nagore and hence are always crowded. It is difficult for the elders, women, physically challenged etc boarding these trains at Thanjavur Junction to get a seat. The Railways should come forward to operate DEMU trains between Thanjavur and Tiruchi for every one hour to meet the demands of the commuters.

S. K. Naidu,

Thanjavur.

No CBSE school for district headquarters

I am surprised to learn that there is no CBSE School at Thanjavur. The one available is at Air Force Station, Pudukottai Road, that too only up to tenth standard. As per the Government’s policy one Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navyuk School should be established in all district capitals of India.

Thanjavur being the capital of a district, there is no such school. It is sad that Thanjavur is being deprived of even such small developments.

A. Sowrirajan,

Thanjavur – 3.

Run more services

All the four pairs of trains plying in the Tiruchi – Nagore and Thanjavur – Nagore sections, remain over-crowded ever since train services were introduced after the completion of the BG conversion works. I request the Railway authorities to introduce more trains in this section immediately.

N. Mohamed Sulaiman,

Nagore.

Meet the demands of commuters

It is shocking that the Tiruchi Railway Division has announced only a couple of special trains to Nagore in connection with the annual ‘Kandoori’ festival at Nagore Dargah.

Thousands of devotees are expected to visit Nagore from all over the country for this festival and two trains will in no way meet the demands. I request the Railways to operate trains every two hours from Tiruchi to Nagapattinam / Nagore and it should be made a permanent arrangement. The annual festival at Velankanni will follow the Nagore festival and the Railways should bear this in mind.

P. Doraisingam,

Koradachery.

Stop here!

The Mayiladuturai – Tiruchi express train is very useful to the commuters of the delta districts. This train does not stop at Tiruverambur station, which is an important industrial and educational centre.

I request the Railways to stop this train at Tiruverambur and this will immensely benefit the workers employed in various industrial establishments and the students studying in NIT-T and other colleges situated here.

S. Krishnan,

Tippirajapuram.

Overnight train service sought

The people of Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts face much hardship to reach Chennai due to the absence of direct train facility. The railways is not re-introducing the Chennai- Nagore express. We do not know why the Ernakulam express has not been extended up to Nagore as assured in the interim budget.

The season of Courtallam has begun but no direct train is available to go to Madurai, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil and to Kerala.

I request the Railways to introduce a overnight train service from Nagore to Tirunelveli / Nagercoil immediately.

V. Dharmadoss,

Tiruvarur.

Protect non-smokers

From May 31, World No Tobacco Day, printing pictorial warning on the packs of all tobacco products has become mandatory under Cigrettes and other Tobacco Products Act. This is a positive development in controlling tobacco-related diseases. The use of tobacco in any form causes more than twenty five diseases. Earlier, the Central Goverment banned Smoking in public places.

However, this menace continues to prevail because the manufacturing and supply of cigarette and bidi products has not been reduced.

Hence, the Government should strictly implement the ban to protect the non-smokers from tobacco-related diseases.

Moreover, it may consider imposing a complete ban on tobacco products in near future.

A. Haja Abdul Khader,

Adirampattinam.

Writing desk needed

In the newly opened Kumbakonam East Sub post office, a writing desk should be provided for the convenience of the people. People are filling postal forms keeping them on their two-wheeler seats.

A shed also is needed in front of the post office to safeguard the public from the hot rays of the sun.

K. Santhanam,

Kumbakonam.
