3 held for selling fake gold chains
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Three persons, including an elderly woman, have been arrested for allegedly selling fake gold chains as genuine and duping innocent people of thousands of rupees. The police claim to have seized 1.73 kg of such fake gold chains.
In view of several such cheating cases being reported in different parts of the Capital and neighbouring areas, a team under the supervision of ACP Defence Colony (Sub-Division) Mehar Singh developed information about several criminals with a similar modus operandi.
Acting on a tip-off, the team laid a trap near Bhola Nagar. A little later, the police team noticed an elderly woman along with two young men going inside a house. The three displayed a bunch of gold chains and struck a deal with house owner Kartar Singh for Rs.1,50,000. At this, the police team swung into action and arrested the woman, Nathi Devi (60), her son Shankar Lal (32) and son-in-law Pooran (40).
