Thief caught removing ‘kalasam’

Police recovered about 32 ‘kalasams’ from the accused
CHENNAI: A thief who was trying to remove a ‘kalasam’ from a temple was caught red-handed by an alert policeman at Chitlapakkam here on Monday night.
Police said Head Constable Kamalakannan and Arun, a member of the ‘Friends of Police’ organisation, were on night patrol duty when they heard an unusual noise from a temple in Chitlapakkam. When Kamalakannan stopped and peeped into the temple premises, a person was trying to remove the ‘kalasam’. He was arrested. The accused was identified as B. Venkatesan (21) of MGR Nagar in Selaiyur. He was involved in many cases of ‘kalasam’ thefts. About 32 ‘kalasams’ were recovered from the accused.
Reward for personnel
The Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner S.R. Jangid presented a reward to Kamalakannan and Arun on Tuesday.
