Unauthorised prawn farms warned

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM:Collector R. Palanisamy has warned that those operating unauthorised saline water prawn farms in the district will be prosecuted.

In a statement released here, he said that the persons would be imprisoned for a period of up to three years or slapped a fine of up to Rs. 1 lakh or both.

Registration

As per law, all saline water prawn farms should be registered with the Assistant Director of Fisheries Department.

Failure to do so would attract penal provisions. Besides such measures, exporters would also spurn products from such farms.

Data available

The district administration was equipped with data on prawn farms run either by owners or lessees in Tindivanam block.

Therefore, nobody could escape from the clutches of the law, the statement said.
