2 women draw 14 lakh after forging signatures

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Two women, who allegedly withdrew Rs. 14 lakh from Andhra Bank’s Nagole branch forging signatures of two account holders, were arrested by the L.B. Nagar police on Thursday. An amount of Rs. 12.69 lakh was recovered from the arrested Sandhya Rani, who was working as computer operator in the bank on contract basis and her cousin, Kavitha.

Since she was operating the computer, 19-year-old Rani had access to collect details of all account holders, the L.B. Nagar DCP, M. Kantha Rao, told reporters. She noticed that there were huge cash deposits in the accounts of two women, P. Sushila and M. Pushpa. The computer operator filled withdrawal forms forging signatures of the two account holders, made her cousin impersonate the two women and withdrew the cash – Rs. 8 lakh and Rs. 6 lakh on May 2 and May 9 from the accounts of P. Sushila and M. Padma respectively.

As the original account holders complained about disappearance of deposits from their accounts, the bank manager approached the police. On learning that Ms. Rani had access to details of account holders, the police detained her and recovered the cash from her house after thorough interrogation spreading over several days.
