HYDERABAD: With the strength of its MLAs going to 92 in the new House, the Telugu Desam Party has set its eyes on more spacious accommodation and zeroed in on the Congress Legislature Party office as an ideal place. A formal request for change of accommodation was made to Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy by TDP legislators R. Chandrasekahra Reddy and E. Dayakar Rao here on Friday, in view of the party’s increased numbers. The TD Legislature Party office presently functions (from 1999 when in power) from the imposing heritage structure of the Assembly while leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu was allotted a separate room inside the lobbies. The TDP legislators contended that all the 92 members are not able to meet under a single roof. They, therefore, sought to be allotted the CLP office and the latter shifted elsewhere. They contended that as CLP leader, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy rarely visited the office while Ministers functioned from their respective offices. ObjectionSources said the Speaker told the MLAs that even though the visits of Chief Minister or the Ministers were few and far between, the CLP had a strength of 156 and several MLAs regularly came there. The TDP members also sought allotment of the office (adjacent to TDLP office) where the government Whip sits besides separate accommodation in the lobbies for the deputy leaders. In the 12th Assembly, Congress, TDP, TRS, CPI(M), CPI and MIM had their own legislature party offices. This time, Legislature Secretariat has to provide additional accommodation to the 18-member-strong Praja Rajyam. It has sought space in the building that houses office of another government Whip.
