NEW DELHI: A few former Olympians have defended the Indian Olympic Association (IOA)’s move to form Hockey India — a unified body for men’s and women’s hockey in the country. Former players like Ajit Pal Singh, Zafar Iqbal and Jagbir Singh have said that without a unified body India would have lost the right to hold the prestigious World Cup next year. Besides, it would have been debarred from playing international tournaments. “There was no other option left for the IOA but to form the new body with a clear provision that elections will be held within six months. Let those who do not agree with IOA’s action fight the elections with their agenda,” Jagbir said. — Sports Reporter
