Protest mode: Indian Union Muslim League district president Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal inaugurating a gathering in Malappuram on Saturday in protest against the recent Beemapally police firing. MALAPPURAM: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) said here on Saturday that the State government did not have the moral right to continue in power in the wake of the “ruthless killing” of innocent people by the State machinery at Beemapally. A protest meeting organised by the party in front of the District Collectorate here against the police firing at Beemapally, in which six people were killed and several others injured, said the incident was a classic case of government’s irresponsibility. Lapses“Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan have admitted the lapses by the police at Beemapally,” said P.K. Kunhalikutty, party general secretary. He was delivering the keynote address at the protest gathering. Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, IUML district president, inaugurated the meeting. M.P.M. Ishaque Kurikkal, senior party leader and former MLA, presided. Nalakath Soopy, former Minister, K. Mohammedunni Haji, MLA, P.V. Mohammed Areekode and P. Ubaidulla spoke. P. Abdul Hameed, Muslim League district treasurer, welcomed the gathering. T.V. Ibrahim, party district secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
