BHUBANESWAR: Innumerable fans of prominent poet Ramakanta Rath were disappointed as the coveted honour of fellowship from the Central Sahitya Akademi could not be conferred on him for the absence of Akademi’s president Sunil Gangopadhyaya here on Friday evening. The Akademi had hosted a special gathering at the IDCOL auditorium to present the fellowship to Rath, who has also been former president of the Akademi. A large number of literary luminaries of the State assembled at the venue to be a part of the ceremony and to listen to two of the greatest writers of the country – Rath and Gangopadhyaya. But they were disappointed as Akademi’s secretary A. Krishnamurty announced that the president would not be present to given away the fellowship. It has been a tradition with the Akademi to present the Fellowship through the president, he explained and added that the Fellowship presentation ceremony will be rescheduled shortly. Krisnhamurty released a book in Oriya titled “Ramakanta Rath” scripted by young poet, translator and travel writer Monalisa Jena on the occasion. In his address, Rath dwelt upon his experiences of being a writer while eminent writer Haraprasad Das spoke on his rare achievements. Literary critic Dasarathi Das and poet Aparna Mohanty also deliberated on various facets of Rath’s literary creations on the occasion that was chaired by Satakadi Hota. Noted novelist Bibhuti Patnaik and writer-journalist Gourahari Das – both members of the Akademi’s advisory council for Oriya language – also addressed.
