VIJAYAWADA: Krishna District Collector N. Sridhar on Saturday asked the officials to take steps to enrol all school-age children into schools during the fortnight-long ‘Badi Baata’ programme scheduled to commence on July 12. Addressing a review meeting, Mr. Sridhar asked the officials to create awareness among the public about the need for literacy and encourage parents to admit their children into schools. Referring to the schedule of the programme, he said that a village level campaign must be taken up on June 12 and a household survey on June 15. The officials of the Education Department, in Association with the National Child Labour Project, have to conduct a special drive to identify child labour and admit them into bridge schools. He said the drives should be taken up at the village level and ensure that the district became ‘child labour-free’ soon. Mr. Sridhar said there were 63,394 children of school age in the district and all of them should be enrolled into schools. He asked the officials to take special care with regard to the dropouts and send them to the residential bridge schools for high school education. District Educational Officer Venkata Subbaiah, Project Director of the District Rural Development Agency Satyanarayana and others officials were present.
