State grant to private colleges for staff salaries

BHUBANESWAR: The Higher Education Department of the State government on Saturday issued a notification announcing to provide block grant to more than 700 private colleges across the State for payment of salary to both teaching and nonteaching staff of those institutions.

According to the notification, the colleges that would be benefitted by the order include 255 non-government aided junior colleges receiving full grant-in-aid, 193 non-government aided junior colleges receiving grant-in-aid, 40 non-government junior colleges receiving grant-in-aid in shape of block grant, 108 non-government aided degree colleges, 28 non-government aided degree colleges receiving grant-in-aid, and 113 non-government degree colleges receiving grant-in-aid in the shape of block grant. The payment of block grant to these colleges will benefit 3,000 teaching staff, apart from the non-teaching staff. The payment will be made with effect from February this year.
