Nedumbassery: A 36-year-old passenger who arrived at the Cochin International Airport here on Saturday has been put in quarantine for suspected symptoms of the influenza A (H1N1) virus. The airport officials said the person from London was found suffering from cough, cold and fever while screening at the health cell of the international terminal. After conducting primary medical check-up, he was shifted to the Taluk Hospital at Perumbavoor. Sources said the person was a native of Aluva and had been to Australia for 10 days before returning to India. A sample of the patient’s throat swab had been collected and would be sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in New Delhi for detailed examination, the officials said. Health Officer at the airport Rafel Teddy said the functioning of the health cell had been strengthened by raising the staff strength and by opening more counters to screen the passengers. Service of four paramedical staff and three doctors would be made available during night, while two doctors and two paramedical staff would be available during day.
