BJP demands end to Capital’s water woes

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Drawing the attention of the Delhi Government towards scarcity of water during summer year after year, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Om Prakash Kohli said on Saturday that the Government should take strong steps to ensure sufficient supply of drinking water for the Capital’s citizens.

Prof. Kohli demanded that the working system of the Delhi Jal Board should be closely examined and its defects removed.

“Every year during summer,” he said, “Delhi faces a crisis of drinking water and despite ruling in Delhi for the past ten years the Congress Government has not been able to find a satisfactory solution to the problem.”

According to reports, the latest shortage of drinking water has arisen due to a fall in the production levels at the Chandrawal and Wazirabad water treatment plants. While the DJB has blamed the Haryana Government for the crisis, the latter has charged that Delhi is at fault.
