Fake policemen relieve woman of chain
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Two persons posing as policemen relieved a woman of her six sovereign gold chain in J.J. Nagar here on Friday.
Police said G. Selvakumari (45) of Tiruvallur district, who had come to the city to see a relative at Mogappair, was walking towards a bus stop in J.J. Nagar when two persons confronted her. Claiming to be police personnel in plainclothes, they advised the woman to remove her jewellery as the area was prone to chain-snatching incidents.
When Selvakumari refused to budge, they initially tried to convince her that it was only in the interest of her safety that they made the suggestion. Then they threatened to take action if she did not comply with their instructions. Fearing trouble, the victim removed the jewellery and one of the suspects offered to pack them in a piece of paper.
Soon after they left, Selvakumari sensed foul play and opened the packet. Instead of the jewellery, she found sand and stones in it.
The J.J. Nagar police are investigating.
