VIJAYAWADA: The SPA, which had classes for the students of first batch on the campus of Acharya Nagarjuna University, is moving into a temporary accommodation in the city from the forthcoming academic year. After the Union Cabinet gave its nod in June 2008 for the setting up of the institution, officials of the Union Ministry of HRD, the State government and the district administration tried to find a temporary campus in the city. When they could not, classes were immediately commenced on the ANU campus for 92 students, who were admitted through the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). With H.D. Chhaya, a retired professor of SPA, New Delhi, as professor in-charge, the institution was run successfully by the visiting faculty from New Delhi and local architects. Recruitment of permanent faculty is underway. With the ANU authorities now indicating that they would not be able to spare hostel accommodation for SPA students, the institution has decided to find temporary academic and hostel campus for some 200 students of first and second years in Vijayawada for a year, until the permanent campus comes up. “We have advertised locally and provisionally selected a building on Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road,” said Dr. Chhaya.
