Subramanya files defamation case against Lokayukta

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: S. Subramanya, Commissioner of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), filed a defamation case against the Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde here on Saturday.

Mr. Subramanya filed the case in his personal capacity. He alleged that “Mr. Hegde had defamed him through derogatory statements.”

“The case has been filed before the 5th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The hearing was adjourned to June 9,” V.Y. Kumar, Mr. Subramanya’s advocate told The Hindu. The case relates to the alleged derogatory comments by Mr. Hegde against the commissioner in the wake of six-year-old Abhishek being swept away in a drain at Lingarajapuram last Sunday.

The Lokayukta and Upa Lokayukta G. Patri Basavana Goud visited Abhishek’s parents on June 4.

Later, the Lokayukta criticised the BBMP for not maintaining the drains in the city.
