MADURAI: The Department of Tourism, in association with the district administration, will organise the ‘Teruvora Tiruvizha’ (roadside art festival) on the Chithirai streets around Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. This is the second phase of the festival, which will go on for 26 weeks. The objective of the festival is to showcase rural art forms that are facing extinction. Besides introducing these forms to the new generation and tourists, the festival also serves to nurture interest among their practitioners. The first phase of the festival was conducted for 26 weeks from September 27, 2008, to February 28, 2009.
