CHENNAI: A drive to plant about 1,000 saplings was launched by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) on Saturday at a function organised by it as part of World Environment Day. Inaugurating the celebrations organised at a school in Chinnasekkadu near Manali, Environment Minister T.P.M. Mohideen Khan highlighted the significance of such initiatives at an individual level to reduce the carbon footprint. Enhancing the green cover was an important aspect of environment conservation, he said. Fisheries Minister K.P.P. Sami lauded CPCL for its efforts not only to develop the neighbouring areas but also conserve the environment through various initiatives. School children from the neighbouring areas were involved in the drive to increase green cover. CPCL Managing Director K.K. The CPCL would also invest Rs. 2,600 crore in the production of Euro IV-compliant auto fuel products by April 2010.
