Tirupur: To raise funds for renovation and improvement of basic amenities at temples, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department (HR&CE) is all set to introduce gold card scheme, a special patron scheme for donors, shortly. P.R. Ashok, Joint Commissioner of HR&CE, told The Hindu that donors who had contributed a minimum of Rs. 5 lakh would be eligible for the gold card, which entitles them to have special darshan at all temples controlled by the HR&CE Department in the State for 20 years. The department had chalked out an elaborate plan to improve drinking water facilities and accessibility at various temples in Tirupur district this fiscal. Accordingly, infrastructure at Valaithottathu Ayyan temple in Palladam would be improved at an outlay of Rs. 37 lakh. “We will construct a bridge to connect the approach road to the entrance of the temple, which is presently engulfed by a small trench, besides building an overhead water tank and toilets,” Mr. Ashok said. At Kolumam Dhandeswaran temple in Udumalpet, granite flooring, temple tower renovation and maintenance works would be carried at Rs. 10 lakh over the next few months. The historic Lord Subramaniyaswamy temple at Sivanmalai situated on a hillock along Tirupur-Kangayam stretch would be given a facelift at Rs. 1 crore under a public-private partnership venture.
