Flash strike by NLC contract workers

CUDDALORE: Contract workers in the Thermal Station-II of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation went on a flash strike on Sunday protesting against the dismissal of general secretary of the NLC Jeeva Contract Workers’ Union.
Mr. Venkatesan, general secretary of the union, told The Hindu that when he went for duty, he was denied entry by security personnel. On enquiry, he was told that the contractor with whom he was working had removed him from service.
When he sought the reason for the dismissal, the contractor told him that he chose to come only for night shifts and moreover he used to abstain from work for days at a stretch.
The NLC sources said the management did not have anything to do with the dismissal of Mr Venkatesan.
