THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hindu Aikyavedi State general secretary E.S. Biju has demanded that the government give up the move to pilot a Devaswom Amendment Bill in the Assembly. In a statement here on Monday, Mr. Biju said the Bill paved the way for concentration of powers to govern temples with the government. The provisions in the draft Bill gave absolute authority to the government and the parties in power to control the temples. The Bill was against the spirit of the covenant made in 1950 that gave autonomy to the temples. The Left Democratic Front government was amending the rules to bring temple administration under its control, Mr. Biju said.
