Kochi: The Kerala High Court has ordered that if the government proposed to take any action against the zoo run by the Prassinikkadavu Park in Kannur, it should be done only after issuing notice to the park and hearing its president. Justice S. Siri Jagan passed the order while disposing of a writ petition filed by M.V. Raghavan, president of the park, against the move to close down the zoo functioning at the park. The court ordered that if the order was against the petitioner, it should not be implemented for a month so that the petitioner could challenge it. Mr. Raghavan, in his plea, feared that proceedings would be initiated against the park on the ground that the zoo had not been recognised. He contended that the zoo had been recognised by the Central Zoo Authority. Sentence to stayJustice M.N. Krishnan on Monday declined to suspend the sentence of five-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.5,000 awarded to eight accused in a case relating to rape of a minor girl at Ayyipuzha in Kannur. The court, however, suspended the sentence of two years’ rigorous imprisonment awarded to another accused P.P. Azeez. The Additional Sessions court, Thalassery, also awarded 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment to the father of the girl who had also been accused of raping the girl. He, however, did not file any petition for suspending the sentence. Bail refusedJustice K.T. Sankaran refused to grant bail to Promod Isaac arrested in connection with the Total-4-U cheating case. He was the private secretary of the prime accused in the case Sabarinath and was accused of collecting huge deposits from various persons in a fraudulent way.
