Kannada flag: circular to be withdrawn
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: Bowing to pressure from Kannada outfits and the Opposition, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has decided to withdraw the circular imposing curbs on hoisting Kannada flags on government buildings.
When presspersons sought to draw the Chief Minister’s attention to the criticism against the restrictions imposed on hoisting Kannada flags, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the circular was an old one and “the Government will withdraw it.”
Mr. Yeddyurappa’s assurance to withdraw the controversial order came hours after Janata Dal (Secular) spokesman Y.S.V. Datta came down on the Government for imposing restrictions on hoisting Kannada flags when the “Naada Geethe” had been accorded the official status.
“When the state song is sung after the national anthem at government functions, there is no reason why there should be restrictions on hoisting Kannada flags as long as they do not flutter at a height higher than the national flag”, he reasoned.
Kannada organisations too had criticised the restrictions on hoisting the Kannada flag.
