dated June 9, 1959: Nuclear tests

The three-Power nuclear conference was convened in Geneva on June 8 to continue drafting a treaty for banning nuclear weapons tests. Mr. David Ormsby-Gore, British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who leads the British delegations to the talks, said, “It seems that we have now approached the time when we should be able to get the text of a treaty. I think that the series of discussions will see the conference as far as we can take it. After that there will be some points for settlement by the heads of Government.”
