Lavalin case

Kerala Governor R.S. Gavai’s decision to reject the Cabinet’s recommendation and to give sanction to prosecute CPI (M) leader in the SNC-Lavalin case is welcome. Whether or not the Governor exceeded the discretionary power vested in him may be a moot point. But if Pinarayi Vijayan is innocent, why should the party fight shy of judicial process?

V.K. Sathyavan Nair,

It is a great opportunity for the CPI(M) secretary to prove his innocence in the court of law.

The Constitutional provision on Governor’s powers in such cases does not seem clear. The Law Ministry and the Supreme Court should intervene and give their advice on this matter.

T. Anand,

Chennai
