Pakistan’s war

The article “Obama’s world & Pakistan’s war on terror” (June 8) validates the anxiety we all have regarding the future of this nation created in the name of religion. If Pakistan becomes a failed state, there will certainly be serious trouble for the whole world, particularly for a secular, democratic and prospering neighbour like India. But a solution does not lie in propping up the nation with sops anymore than the solution to the problem of a poisonous plant lies in fertilizing and nourishing it.

The course of events has demonstrated beyond doubt that the creation of Pakistan was a historical mistake, and that time has come when the correction of that mistake is clearly seen to be an inescapable step.

A. Ramachandran,

Mr. Praveen Swami’s article is a timely reminder that our policymakers should stop looking to the U.S. to eliminate Pakistan’s support to the acts of terrorism against India and Indians. India should also evolve a forward-looking policy of engaging Iran closely.

V. Balaji,

Chennai
