Letters to the Editor
Your editorial “Cause for concern” (June 8) hit the nail on the head. The Australian government, which earns considerable foreign exchange from international education, is supposed to give top priority to the safety and security of foreign students studying there. S. Ramakrishnasayee, Ranipet The continuing violence against Indian students in Australia has done enough damage to Australia’s reputation as a safe education destination. Unless there is an immediate plan by Canberra to check these violent incidents, its highly lucrative education industry will suffer in the long term. International students might be forced to look at opportunities elsewhere. It is also time for the authorities in India to create more world class universities, which will retain and enrich the large pool of talent available in the country. S. Rajendraprasad, Chennai
