KIADB officials gheraoed

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Officials of the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) were once again gheraoed by the residents of Gonipur and surrounding villages near Bidadi on Monday demanding reasonable compensation for their land being acquired for the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project.

A group of officials led by a Special Land Acquisition Officer had visited Gonipur village around 10.30 a.m. to gather information about number of households in the villages.

However, the villagers gheraoed them and made it clear that they should not enter the village until the State Government announced proper compensation for their land. The Government had announced Rs. 88,402 as compensation per acre of land, acquired for the first township that form the part of BMICP, whereas the actual market value of the land here is above Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 60 lakh per acre, said G.V. Bettaiah, former vice-president of K. Gollahalli Gram Panchayat.

Finally the officials got the rough details of number of households from the villagers and left the place without conducting any survey.

In a similar incident, the KIADB officials were held in captive by residents of the village some months ago on the same issue.
