Corrections and clarifications

The CBI has sought prosecution of Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan under the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC), and not under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as reported in "Governor clears prosecution of Kerala CPI(M) leader" (June 8, 2009, page 1). The detail was correct in the report on the inside page, "Decision comes after elaborate exercise" (June 8, 2009).

In an article "Challenge and opportunity before the new Lok Sabha" (June 6, 2009) there was a reference to former RJD MP Ranjeet Ranjan. She was MP of the Lok Jan Sakthi party and won from Saharsa, Bihar.

A late clarification: The sixth paragraph of a report "Rare topper: first IIT-JEE, now AIEEE" (North India, May 31, 2009, page 1) was "This perhaps is the first time a student who has topped the IIT-JEE has bagged the first position in AIEEE as well." (The report was on 17-year-old Nitin Jain.) A reader points out that Piyush Srivastava from Boys High School, Allahabad, achieved this feat in 2005 and in addition to this came first in the ISC exam, won the gold medal in the International Physics Olympiad and came second in the UP-CET examination.
