The award will be presented at a meeting to be held in Karimnagar on June 18

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Praja Sakthi Sahiti Samstha decided to give this year’s Moturu Hanumantha Rao memorial annual award to Ganjivarapu Srinivasa Rao, special correspondent of Dhimsa, an active member of an NGO, Samata and a freelance journalist.

Former Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Press Academy Potturi Venkateswara Rao, who is chairman of the award selection committee, announced the award on Tuesday. This year’s topic was “Bhoo Sancharam” and Mr. Srinivasa Rao’s series of articles on forest problems and solutions, published in Eenadu. Former editor of Visalandhra C. Raghavachari and editor of DNF V. Hanumantha Rao were members of the award selection committee.

The award would be presented at a meeting to be held during the eight death anniversary of Moturu Hanumantha Rao in Karimnagar on June 18. Minister for Higher Education D. Sridhar Babu will present the award in the presence of MP Ponnam Prabhakar, MLA G. Kamalakar, Vice-Chancellor of Satavahana University Md. Iqbal Ali and Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao received last year the annual counter media award 2007, instituted by Mgasaysay awardee P. Sainath for rural reporting from the then Speaker of Lok Sabha Somnath Chatterjee and received a fellowship from the Centre for Science and Environment to work on the Chenchus in Srisailam forests and the environment there.
