VISAKHAPATNAM: Assistant Superintendent of Police (Chintapalli) Shyam Sundar has said that there was definite information that militia members were indulging in destruction of property and looting along with CPI (Maoists) in the agency areas of the district. It was against this background that the militia members were summoned to the police station and sought an explanation. He said it was ridiculous that the Maoists were now issuing statements that the militia members were tribal farmers. Mr. Shyam Sundar said that the police has definite information about the involvement of the militia in the burning of a lorry at Chaparathipalem village in January, burning of an election jeep at Timulabandha, looting of the house of the Kumada village president in May and burning of vehicles that were used for road laying work at Lakshmipuram village.
He said that the Maoists were trying to depict the militia members as tribal farmers. He appealed to the tribal militia members and their parents to surrender voluntarily.
