Centenary celebrations of church come to an end

Union Minister A. Raja to release special postal stamp to mark the celebrations


Feast to mark the end of celebrations from June 12 to 22

Centenary souvenir magazine would be released on June 21


PUDUCHERRY: The year-long centenary celebrations of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will come to an end with a feast from June 12 to 22. Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology A. Raja will release a special postal stamp to mark the centenary celebrations of the church on June 19.

Parish priest of the church Fr. A. Thomas said that Auxiliary Bishop of Chennai-Mylapore Lawrence Pius would hoist the flag on June 12 to mark the beginning of the festival.

“There will be special mass every day in the morning, noon and evening during the feast. On June 14, a blood donation camp will be organised at the church. Apart from donating blood, people can register their blood groups to be contacted when required,” he told reporters on Wednesday. Archbishop of Chennai-Mylapore A. M. Chinnappa will inaugurate the blood donation camp, he added.

Union Minister Raja in the presence of Union Minister of State for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture V. Narayanasamy will release the postal stamp which will be received by Archbishop of Pondicherry-Cuddalore A. Anandarayar on June 19. A centenary memorial stage would also be inaugurated.

A centenary souvenir magazine would be released on June 21. Archbishop of Ranchi and former head of Indian Bishops Council Telesphore Cardinal Toppo would celebrate mass on the day.

During the festival, special sermons would be delivered by rectors of major seminaries, he added.
