HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that the ‘true colours of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’ were exposed by his ‘anti-Telangana’ remarks in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after reviewing the party’s performance in the elections at the party office here, Mr. Rao came down heavily on Dr. Reddy for hurting the sentiments of the Telangana people. Dr. Reddy spoke in a manner demeaning his stature and the people would teach him a fitting lesson.

‘Deep anguish’

Mr. Rao recalled Dr. Reddy’s statement at Nandyal that the people of the coastal districts would be forced to live like foreigners in Hyderabad if Telangana attained statehood and said the remarks caused deep anguish among the people of the region. The statement was in line with several ‘anti-Telangana initiatives’ taken by the government in the last few years.

There was nothing great about the Congress victory in the elections as the party won by default and due to split in the anti-Congress vote.

The TRS president, however, evaded replies when asked about the dissidence within his party.

Addressing a separate press conference, TRS floor leader E. Rajender said the Chief Minister spoke as if the TRS was not in alliance with the Congress in 2004 elections and the fact that they were Ministers in his Cabinet.

TVS meeting

Dr. Reddy mounted an unwarranted attack on the TRS while continuing to show discrimination towards projects in Telangana.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the organising committee of the proposed Telangana Vimochana Samiti (TVS) was held under the presidentship of B.S. Ramulu, who authored books on Telangana.

The inaugural address was delivered by a leader of erstwhile Telangana Praja Samiti Bhupathi Krishnamurhy.

TRS MLC K. Dilip Kumar, who is in the forefront of TVS, and senior leaders V. Prakash and Ballayya Naik spoke. They said that the preparatory meetings for the launch of TVS June 18 would be held in all district headquarters of Telangana from June 12 to 15.
