Ban on omnibus permits revoked

Coimbatore: The State Government has revoked the ban on the issue of new permits for contract carriage omnibuses.
The Government had imposed the ban on September 20, 1991 vide GO MS No 1445 of the Home Department. It decided to revoke the ban on June 9.
This decision empowers the Transport Commissioner and Regional Transport authorities to issue new permits.
Transport Department sources pointed out that the decision would enable more private players to enter the field and there could be an increase in the number of buses on the most congested routes.
Similarly, presence of more operators and buses would curb whimsical fare increase by omnibus operators.
