Abhinav and Appa Rao hog the limelight

HYDERABAD: A century by Ranji wicket-keeper Abhinav Kumar for Andhra Bank and a fine spell by left-arm spinner V.V.V. Appa Rao (five for 95) for SCRSA were the highlights of the second day’s play in the A-Division (three-day) league cricket matches here on Wednesday.

Abhinav’s ton (141, 10 x 4, 2 x 6) and his 204-run stand for the second wicket with Naveen Reddy (84) helped Andhra Bank score 269 for three in reply to Ensconse’s 283 in the first innings.

In another match, left-armer Appa Rao claimed his second five-wicket haul and enabled SCRSA to restrict Marredpally Colts to 321. In reply, SCRSA was 156 for seven.

AOC’s Surender Singh Patwal (five for 16) skittled out Evergreen for 132 and in reply, AOC was 41 for two at stumps.

The scores: A-Division (three-day) league: 2nd day: Ensconse 283 (Habeeb Ahmed 72, M. A. Rizwan 59, Khader four for 81) vs Andhra Bank 269 for three (Abhinav Kumar 141, Naveen Reddy 84).

MP Colts 321 (Benjamin Thomas 170 not out, Kanishk Naidu 42, V. V. V. Appa Rao five for 95, Naushad four for 38) vs SCRSA 156 for seven (Radhey Krishna Manohar 52, R. A. Viswanath 63 batting).

Narender moves up

K. Narender Sai defeated Ishan Agarwal 8-3 in the men’s singles first round of the Transworld Sports Foundation tennis tournament at Indira Park.

Easy for Guzzlers

Guzzlers recorded a 114-run win over Pharma Blues in the Friendship Cup cricket tournament for corporate groups.

Guzzlers 159 (Viresh 52) bt Pharma Blues 45 for nine.

Coaches workshop

The Andhra Pradesh Chess Association will conduct a coaches’ refreshers free workshop in Chennai from June 20 to 23. All the state chess coaches and arbiters may attend the course.

It was also stated that a FIDE arbiters’ course will be held from June 25 to 29 in Chennai. Registration for this course ends on June 12 through concerned State Chess Associations.
