This Day That Age
Senior border officials of India and Pakistan concluded their two-day meeting in Amritsar on June 9 which was described as “successful” by Brig. Saiuddin, who led the Pakistan team. A press release issued after the meeting said that certain minor points of dispute mainly due to river action were resolved and that in some cases, it was agreed by the officers to refer matters to their respective Governments. The official hand-out did not list the subjects covered at the discussions lasting six hours spread over the two days but Brig. Saiuddin said that the meeting was successful and that all disputed matters between the two countries were settled amicably. He said that due to drastic measures adopted on both sides, the smuggling menace had been greatly eradicated and there had been no smuggling of gold for the last few months. There was also appreciable improvement in the crime situation on the Indo-Pakistan border, he added.
