COIMBATORE: The Department of Radiology at Kovai Medical Center and Hospital and the Indian Society of Vascular and Intervantional Radiology will conduct here on June 13 and 14 a workshop on ‘Diagnosis and Management of Paediatric Vascular Malformations.’ A hands-on training in the fundamentals of interventional radiology will also be held on these days, the hospital said on Thursday. The workshop would highlight the use of interventional radiology for accurate diagnosis and management of vascular problems in children. Hospital chairman Nalla G. Palaniswami said interventional radiology itself was a revolutionary form of treatment that eliminated sutures and scars. The hospital would buy most advanced angiography equipment to enable the treatment of complex problems, especially in the brain. Course directors of the workshop Mathew Cherian and Pankaj Mehta said vascular malformation was common in India and was often associated with deformity of the face or other parts of the body. Sometimes this could result in death caused by bleeding. Philip John, a specialist from Canada, would be the main faculty. He had two decades of experience in treating vascular deformaties in children.
