Chain snatching bid foiled

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A daring attempt at chain snatching near Kamani Auditorium on Copernicus Marg here on Thursday was foiled by an alert policeman who chased and caught the accused. The incident took place around 8 p.m. when the two men on a motorcycle snatched the chain of young Manmeet Kaur who was on her way to the Mandi House metro rail station along with her friend Talwinder Kaur.

On hearing the girls’ screams for help, Assistant Sub-Inspector Dilbag Singh who was patrolling the area pounced on the duo and overpowered one of them. Hearing the commotion, some passers-by also gathered at the spot and nabbed the other accused as well. The two were later identified as Mohammad Ali (28) and Nand Kishor (52), a registered bad character. A country-made pistol and the stolen chain have allegedly been seized. Several cases of snatching have been registered against the duo at Seemapuri and Bhajanpura, the police said.
