Telugu litterateur Ramaraju honoured

HYDERABAD: Recognising 65 years of hard work and research in literary world of Telugu language and folklore, C.P.Brown Academy presented the Telugu Bharati Puraskaramu- 2009 to renowned scholar Biruduraju Ramaraju.

The national research professor of Government of India was felicitated on Thursday by Governor N.D. Tiwari at the Raj Bhavan. “Prof. Ramaraju brought about a new focus and understanding to the rich and varied folklore tradition of Andhra Pradesh,” said Mr. Tiwari. Former Registrar of CIEFL I.V. Chalapathi Rao, said his contribution to the world of folklore was monumental and went on to address him as ‘Maharishi’. Born in Devnuru village of Warangal, Prof. Ramaraju completed his MA and PhD from Osmania University.

He has authored 29 books including expansive volumes on ‘Andhra Yogulu’. He also published 12 classics- five in Telugu and seven in Sanskrit.
