VELLORE: Heavy rains battered Vellore city on Friday evening, bringing relief to the people who have been reeling under sweltering heat for the last two weeks. Several roads were flooded on account of the rain. The northern side of the Bangalore Road between Makkan junction and Palace Cafe junction was inundated, forcing two-wheeler riders to drive cautiously close to the central median. Vellore recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius (103.3 degrees Fahrenheit) during the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Friday, as against a maximum temperature of 41 degrees C. (105.8 degrees F.) during the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.
