Plea to announce delimitation of BBMP wards Government urged not to shift BBMP Commissioner
R.V. Deshpande BANGALORE: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande on Friday urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to provide highest security to sensitive installations such as Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant, Kadra dam, Seabird Naval base and Kali hydro-electric project in Uttara Kannada district. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Deshpande expressed his concern over the delay in finding Lokanath Mahalingam, the scientist working at the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant even though three teams had been working since three days. The government, he said should make elaborate arrangements to protect the installations, he added. He said that the financial position of the government was bad and it had no money to purchase foodgrains to supply to the BPL families in the State. Excise and Information Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu’s statement that storm water drains in the city would be re-built at a cost of Rs. 4,000 crore was made even though BBMP did not have even Rs. 4 crore, he said. Mr. Deshpande urged the government to announce delimitation of wards in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and hold elections to the BBMP before the deadline set by the Karnataka High Court. He said that administration had collapsed and Mr. Yeddyurappa had lost control over governance. “The development works have come to a grinding halt affecting the people, especially the poor”, he said. “People are not getting clean drinking water and they are likely to be afflicted by diseases, if immediate measures are not taken,” he said. He demanded immediate recruitment to fill 9,000 vacant posts in the BBMP. Mr. Deshpande and N.L. Narendra Babu, MLA, urged the government not to shift BBMP Commissioner S.Subramanya when the elections were the round the corner and a lot of development works have been in progress. The KPCC had organised a felicitation for External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, Union Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa and the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, here on June 21. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad would attend it.
