Chennai Metrowater’s response
In response to the item ‘Contaminated water causes diseases, allege residents’ published in these columns on June 12, 2009, regarding contamination of water in Thangal Ulvayil Street in Virugambakkam, Chennai Metrowater said an inspection of the site was carried out on Friday.
It was noticed that the water supply received through the hand pump during the initial 10 to 15 minutes had foul stench. Subsequently, the water quality was good. It is proposed to flush the water main in the tail end streets in the area. In the meantime tanker water supply has been arranged to the affected streets. The source of water pollution will be traced out and the problem will be permanently rectified soon. Mobile water supply will be continued in these streets till the problem is rectified, Metrowater said.
