More PG medical seats likely

Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: Minister for Medical Education P. Sudarshan Reddy on Friday said his ministry submitted proposals to the government to increase PG medical seats in different medical colleges in the State by another 400.

At present 1,049 PG medical seats were available in the State and this decision was taken to provide quality medical education and specialised medical services to people at teaching hospitals, he said while addressing a media conference here. Expressing satisfaction over the facilities available at the teaching hospitals like NIMS, he said efforts were on to improve them further.

Attack condemned

He described the attack on junior doctors at Gandhi Hospital unfortunate and said the government would see that such incidents do not recur.

The Minister said there were a total of 15,000 beds at all teaching hospitals put together.

‘Mismatch’

All facilities and specialised doctors were available there, but there was some “mismatch” in their duties. He explained the “mismatch” as some departments having more doctors and some lacking specialist doctors. “We are looking into the problem and will rectify it within a few days,” he added.
