Feast for theatre lovers

TIRUPATI: The series of mythological plays by the famous ‘Surabhi Samajam’ troupe began at a glittering function at Mahati auditorium here on Saturday..

‘Maya Bazaar’ was enacted on Saturday evening, while ‘Srinivasa Kalyanam’ will be performed on Sunday and Monday at 6.15 p.m. A contingent of 72 artistes, led by Surabhi Venugopal, is here to enthral the audience for three days.

The 124-year old troupe gave its maiden performance of ‘Keechaka Vadha’ in Kadapa, while Kamalabai, an actor in ‘Bhakta Prahlada’, the first Telugu talkie that was released in the year 1931, also belonged to the Surabhi family.

TTD Chairman D.K. Audikesavulu and Executive Officer K.V. Ramanachary hailed Surabhi for the theatre tradition in the State.

TUDA Chairman Ch. Bhaskar Reddy also spoke.
