For safety: Dr. R. Vidhya Subramaniyan, Professor, Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai, fixing an ear plug to a participant at the training programme in Krishnagiri on Saturday. KRISHNAGIRI: Adherence to rules and regulations stipulated by the Government from time to time can reduce noise pollution, said Audiologists from Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai, here on Saturday. Dr. R. Vidhya Subramaniyan and Dr. Kavya Selvarajan, professors from the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, conducted a training programme on ‘Prevention and Control of Noise Pollution’. The programme was supported by the State Commissioner for Persons with Disability jointly with the District Police Administration and Pennar Lions Club, Kaveripattinam. The programme was organised for those who are highly vulnerable to noise pollution, especially traffic constables. The professors explained to the cops how to prevent hearing loss by simple methods such as keeping ear plugs. Though the Government was ready to supply the safety materials, the request should go through the departments, they added. Dr. Kavya said the normal audible limit was 90 decibels for 8 hours and if it exceeded the level it would affect the hearing capacity of a person. About 50 policemen and women participated in the programme. Additional Superintendent of Police D. Magesh Kumar inaugurated the programme. D.N.V. Selvaraj, Past District Governor 324-B2 and Thanga Elangovan, Pennar Lions Club, participated.
