KARUR: As part of corporate social responsibility policy, the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) has donated notebooks to over 6,000 students studying in around 46 government schools in eight panchayats in Karur district. The donation is worth over Rs. 7 lakh. General Manager, Human Resources, P. Vasudevan and other officials distributed the notebooks to the identified students at a function held at Kagithapuram near Pugalur recently and in other places. The beneficiary students came from government schools in Kagithapuram, Punnam, Nanjai Pugalur, Punjai Pugalur, Vettamangalam, Thirukkaduthurai, Kombupalayam and Punjai Thottakurichi panchcyats in Karur district. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vasudevan said that TNPL spent over Rs. 20 lakh a year in improving infrastructure facilities in schools and as financial aid to needy students to help them pursue education besides rewarding meritorious performers in public exams for SSLC and Plus Two. Elected public representatives including Punjai Pugalur Panchayat president Kalyani Saminathan, senior officials of the TNPL, headmasters, office bearers of the parent teachers’ associations and others were present on the occasion.
