NEW DELHI: Students seeking admission to Delhi University are coming in droves to purchase the forms for the B.A. (Honours) Business Economics (BBE), which has emerged as one of the most sought after courses over the past couple of years. Over 480 seats, including all quota, are available for the BBE programme. The seats for the differently-abled and the foreign students are supernumerary to this. The course is offered at ten colleges of the University: Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, College of Vocational Studies, Gargi College, Lakshmibai College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Ram Lal Anand College (evening), S.G.T.B. Khalsa College, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, Shivaji College and Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce. The BBE is a three-year professional course divided into six semesters. There are 24 papers in all, of which 20 are compulsory and the remaining four are from optional groups. “We are selling 500 to 600 forms every day, and the number could reach 7,000 to 7,500 by 6 p.m. on Monday (the last date). The forms are being sold at all the ten colleges in addition to the centralised admission cell at Ram Lal Anand College (evening),” said Harish Dhawan, coordinator of admissions for BBE this year. The candidates will have to appear at an entrance examination on June 21 at 10 a.m. As many as 18 colleges will serve as venues for the exam. The two-hour entrance test worth 100 marks will asses students in English, Maths, logical reasoning and general awareness. There will be no interviews for admission to the course. The entrance exam results will be declared on or before June 26 and will be available on south.du.ac.in/be “After the exam, the admission cell will create ranks for students on the basis of their test results (50 per cent weightage) and best four subjects’ scores in Class XII (50 per cent). We will provide an overall rank and the rank within the category, if there is one,” Dr. Dhawan added. The successful candidates will be allotted colleges from July 1 onward as per a centralised process. They will be invited as per their rank and asked to choose a college. As the seats get full at one college, the students would move to the next college.
