Film: Karma - Crime, Passion, Reincarnation Director: M.R. Shahjahan Cast: Carlucci Weyant, Alma Saraci, Vijeyandra Ghatge, Claudia Ceisla It is apparently a thriller made by Indian producers for the American audience. Well, though the title is self explanatory, the surprise element is the reincarnation theory. It could still be a novelty in the West, but here we are aware of almost every twist and turn possible with the theory. Director M.R. Shahjahan, who once gave us “Afsana Pyaar Ka”, follows the life of a newlywed couple from New York. Vik (Carlucci Weyant) comes to India at the insistence of his wife Anna (Alma Saraci) to meet his alienated father (Vijeyandra Ghatge) in Ooty. As soon as the girl lands in Ooty, she begins to feel that she has a connection with the place. She gets visions of a young lady (Claudia Ceisla) being tormented in the wilds. She wants to solve the mystery. The camerawork and sound fit the genre and the director has tried to put in place all the ingredients – Indian characters, American accent – to make it appear as an Indian flavour for a Western audience but the plot is just too thin to hold any interest after the first few minutes.
